Civil Wastewater Treatment
Current legislation provides the following regulations.

The regulations classify wastewater into domestic, urban and industrial.

Domestic wastewater is considered to be civil wastewater from human excreta and metabolism and from domestic activities, containing primarily cellulose, lipids, proteins, urea, uric acid, carbohydrates, etc.

The category of domestic wastewater also covers:

  • wastewater specified in regional regulations with equivalent characteristics;
  • wastewater produced by production activities considered to have a lower environmental impact, such as certain types of fish farms (low density per square metre or in relation to the flow of water) and agro-livestock farms (low nitrogen content in the effluent).

The legislation sets out limits for the parameters of wastewater generated by production processes below which it may be categorised as domestic wastewater.

The parameters in question include: the flow rate, pH, temperature, colour, coarse materials, total suspended solids, BOD5, COD, COD/BOD5 ratio, total phosphorus, ammonia nitrogen, nitrous and nitrate nitrogen, animal and vegetable fats and oils, surfactants, etc.

Civil Wastewater
treatment levels.

Depending on the case, civil wastewater can be treated to different levels: preliminary, primary, secondary, tertiary, refining and sludge treatment.

Preliminary and primary
treatments

These remove unwanted and settleable components.

Secondary and tertiary
treatments

These remove soluble organic components and nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients.

Refinement
treatments

These remove suspended solids and disinfect the wastewater.

Sludge
treatment

Used to reduce moisture and putrescence.

Gazebo Plants
for Civil Wastewater Purification

Imhoff Tanks

Imhoff Tanks (or Imhoff Pits) are used to treat sewage in small or medium-sized purification plants.

They consist of two internal compartments: an upper sedimentation compartment and a lower digestion compartment.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas.
Tourist facilities.
Public Bodies.

Two- and Three-Chamber Septic Tanks

Two- and three-chamber Septic Tanks are equipped with an underground holding tank with two or three chambers with common compartments for sewage and sludge, which collect and dispose of black water and grey water from domestic drains.

They are designed to allow active enzymes to purify the lighter sludge as it passes from one chamber to another.

APPLICATIONS
Residential areas, homes, apartment blocks.
Industrial areas, restaurants, hotels, canteens, catering, cafes, truck stops, meal packaging centres.
Agri-food industries, slaughterhouses, butchers shops, wine cellars, dairies, canneries, pastry and confectionery production, fish industries.
Tourist facilities, campsites, spas.
Public Bodies, hospitals, communities, schools.

Static Degreasers

Static Degreasers are used to treat wastewater containing oils and animal/vegetable fats.

These physically treat the wastewater by means of decantation, sedimentation and gravity floatation.

APPLICATIONS
Kitchens in general (restaurants, hospitals, hotels, company/school canteens, industrial food processing).

Aerobic Percolating Filters

Aerobic Percolating Filters treat the clarified water exiting the Imhoff Tank.

This treatment reduces the organic matter contained in the wastewater by means of aerobic microorganisms (bacteria, protozoa, fungi, metazoa, etc.) attached to the plastic bulk fill material, on which they form a mucilaginous biological film.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas.
Tourist facilities.
Public Bodies.

Anaerobic Percolating Filters

The clarified water exiting the Imhoff Tank is conveyed to the lower part of the Anaerobic Percolating Filter.

Anaerobic Percolating Filters contain plastic bulk fill material with a high surface area/volume ratio, which establish an anaerobic process to breaks down a variable percentage of the incoming wastewater.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas.
Tourist facilities.
Public Bodies.

Monobloc Imhoff Tank + Aerobic Percolating Filter System

A Monobloc System which biologically reduces the organic substances contained in the wastewater using microorganisms.

The clarified water exiting the Imhoff Tank is treated in the Aerobic Percolating Filter containing plastic bulk fill material coated with aerobic microorganisms.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas.
Tourist facilities.
Public Bodies

Monobloc Imhoff Tank + Anaerobic Percolating Filter System

The clarified water exiting the Imhoff Tank is conveyed to the lower part of the Anaerobic Percolating Filter, containing plastic bulk fill material.

The anaerobic process in the vessels breaks down a percentage of the incoming microbial load, which will vary in relation to a variety of factors.

The clarified effluent is finally conveyed by gravity to the final discharge.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas.
Tourist facilities.
Public Bodies.

Extended Aeration Activated Sludge Purification Plants

Gazebo S.p.A. designs and manufactures Extended Aeration Active Sludge Purification Plants with a single monobloc tank (MINIBIOXY/BCS – combined basin) or with several tanks (MINIBIOXY/BSP – separate basin).

The activated sludge produced by the transformation of the organic substance by specific bacteria, separated and collected at the bottom of the hopper of the final sedimentation tank, is continuously recirculated to the aeration phase, while the resulting surplus is periodically extracted.

UTILIZZO
Urban and rural communities, small workshops and commercial enterprises, single-family residences, campsites, tourist villages, hotels, shopping centres.
For small and large communities: available in combined basin (settlements with 10 to 350 p.e.) and separate basin (settlements with 400 to 2,500/3,000 p.e.).

SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) Purification Plants

SBR Purification plants consist of one or more interconnected tanks, complete with internal compartments for roughing/primary sedimentation, holding/homogenisation, biological oxidation and secondary sedimentation.

The purification process involves a sequence of cycles, repeated several times a day.

APPLICATIONS
Small urban and rural communities.
Single-family residences.
Small workshops and commercial enterprises.
Campsites, tourist villages, hotels, shopping centres.

MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) Purification Plants

A further development of activated sludge plants, MBBR Purification Plants are suspended-mass biological purification plants in which the filling material, consisting of rigid plastic material with a high specific surface area, is placed inside the reactor and acts as a substrate for microorganism cultures.

MBBR Purification plants can handle much higher loads than conventional Activated Sludge plants.

APPLICATIONS
Industrial, manufacturing, commercial and residential areas, schools, hotels, campsites, tourist villages.
Very suitable for upgrading existing plants (addition of carriers and containment nets within existing oxidation tanks).

MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) Purification Plants

In an MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) Purification Plant, biological activated sludge purification technology is combined with ultrafiltration of the sludge through membranes in place of traditional secondary settlers.

This technology increases the filtering efficiency and purification capacity, thus reducing the amount of sludge to be disposed of.

It also ensures compliance with bacteriological limits without the need for disinfection.

APPLICATIONS
Small urban and rural communities, small workshops and commercial enterprises, single-family residences, tourist facilities, shopping centres, Public Bodies.
And in all cases where high effluent quality, a small plant footprint, low TSS content and reuse of purified water are required.

Biodisc Purification Plants
(biological rotors)

Biodisc Purification Plants allow biological treatment with attached biomass in which the biological rotors act as an inert substrate for the growth of the biomass.

Constantly rotating between phases of contact immersion in the wastewater and emersion in the air, Biodisc Purification Plants enable the degradation of the organic substances with very short retention times, which means that smaller volumes are required compared to activated sludge systems.

APPLICATIONS
Small urban and rural communities, farms, hotels, shopping centres, Public Bodies.

Dortmund type Sludge Sedimentation Units

Dortmund type Sludge Sedimentation Units are used especially for final sludge sedimentation downstream of biological and chemical-physical treatment processes.

The operation consists in continuously weighting the sludge, and in the “thickener” version for biological sludge, the tank is equipped with internal piping and AISI 304 stainless steel flanged stub pipes for extracting the sludge from the bottom of the hopper.

APPLICATIONS
Residential and industrial areas, tourist facilities, Public Bodies.

And in all situations where physical treatment is required to clarify the effluent and thicken the sludge.

Grey Water Treatment Plants

Plants consisting of a treated water treatment tank, water holding and pumping, stainless steel mesh filter and ultra-microfiltration stations with organic fibre membranes.

Treated grey water from domestic sinks, showers, baths and bidets provides a low-cost water supply for watering green areas, flushing toilets and washing machines, and cleaning cars and outdoor areas.

APPLICATIONS
Residential, tourist and sports facilities.
